Darren Edwards claims three in a row and an unraced four-year-old takes a win
JOCKEY Darren Edwards rode a quickfire treble in the day’s last three races. He kicked things off aboard Crackacan in the Flete Park Club members’ conditions race.
Trainer Julie Pocock said: “He’s my only horse in training and has been an absolute dream. He is lovely to do.”
Julie, who is based near Hinkley Point, Somerset, has had the gelding since he was an unbroken four-year-old.
Darren’s second winner came courtesy of the ever-reliable The Two Amigos for The Bradley Partnership in the confined race. The Midnight Legend gelding has been unbeaten this season.
Darren’s hat-trick was completed in the open maiden when he piloted Ryves Rocky to victory for trainer Les Jefford.
“I knew he had it in him to do it one day; he ran a great race today,” said Les.
SURPRISING PERFORMANCES
THE four-, five- and six-year-old 2m 4f maiden was divided. The first division went to an unraced four-year-old by Vinnie Roe, Noah And The Ark, ridden by Jake Bament for owner/trainer Jill Dennis. It gave Jake his first win of the season.
Jill’s son, Tim, said: “Today was a pleasing performance as he was only broken in in October 2017. We had always held him in high regard, but it’s good to see him go and do it on the track.”
The second division of the 2m 4f maiden went to Legendara (Matt Hampton).
“That’s a nice little surprise,” said trainer Marie McGuinness. “She always lacked confidence on the track when she was under Rules with Charlie Longsdon, but she just kept going today.”
The four-mile mixed open went to the John Heard-trained Navanman (Rex Dingle).
“He is such a game horse,” said John. “He came from David Pipe’s yard, sourced by my son Michael. He will probably go to Trebudannon next week.”
Steel Brush (David Pritchard) stole the restricted race for trainer Keith Cumings.
“He is not the fastest by any means, but he will stay and stay,” said Keith. “He just needs time to get into his races, and he had that today.”
