JACK ANDREWS landed a double on Rock Home Late in the open maiden and Toby Lerone in the eight-year-olds-and-over PPORA Club members’ conditions race.

After bringing the Liz Harris-trained Irish import Rock Home Late home with a powerful late run to deny Howld Your Whist (Sam Lee) by a length and a half, Jack said: “I would like to think he could step up in grade now.”

Toby Lerone bounced back to winning ways with a fourlength triumph over High Kite (Billy Aprahamian).

Trainer Stuart Morris said:

“He had a bit of bad luck at Revesby Park last week when he unseated and this was a massive drop in grade. ”

A BIRTHDAY WIN

DUNARA CASTLE gave Great Missenden owner/trainer Tom Brockett an early birthday present by becoming the first winner at the new Edgcote Racecourse, with Sam Lee in the saddle.

The 11-year-old gelding etched his name into the history books by collaring We Never

Give Up (Paddy O’Connor) for a half-a-length verdict in the hunt members’ race.

It has been a memorable weekend for Tom in the past.

“It is my 32nd birthday tomorrow and five years to the day that I won on No Panic at this meeting at Whitfield,” he said. “Sam rode him perfectly. A nice steady pace is what the horse needs and he likes a hill, as that slows the others down.”

Reflecting on the landmark winner, Sam added: “It’s good — I hope people will remember it. I knew when he came up the hill and he started galloping that he was going to get there.”

Alfie Jordan admitted he didn’t know if his mount, Thyne For Ruda, had held off the late charge of Don’t Budge Me (Claire Angus) in a match for the restricted, after being announced as the shorthead winner on the Fred Hutsby-trained gelding.

The 17-year-old amateur rider, who is based with National Hunt trainer Martin Keighley, said: “I thought I might not have got that one.”

Tristan Durrell, who got off the mark on Kashmir Peak at Guilsborough six days earlier, followed up on the Nick Pearce-trained gelding in the PPORA Club members’ conditions

race for novice riders.

The 16-year-old, who works for Dan Skelton, gave the son of Tiger Hill an accomplished ride to come home nine lengths ahead off Bayley’s Dream (Billy Aprahamian).
