Brendonhill Doublet
2001 NTR gelding
BREEDER: Brendon Hill Stud,
Somerset
OWNER/RIDER: Imogen Gloag SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Brendonhill Doublet, one of the oldest horses in the field, completed Badminton for firsttimer Imogen Gloag, one of the youngest riders, this year.
Doublet was bred by Diana Scott at Brendon Hill farm near Watchet in Somerset and, on his dam’s side, goes back to the stud’s founding lines — he has a plethora of famous relatives.
Doublet is by the stud’s thoroughbred stallion Future Role, a grandson of leading American sire Tom Rolphe. Future Role is also the sire of the Sport Horse Breeding (GB) graded thoroughbred stallion, Wessex Starring Role.
Doublet is out of the mare Double Trouble Two VII, a daughter of Sam Barr’s stallion Welton Louis, who was by his foundation stallion Welton Gameful. Louis sired many event horses including European champion Welton Romance and four-star horses Welton Chit Chat, Tangle Louis and Aloaf. He is also the sire of the stallions Welton Ambassador and Brendon Hill’s former sire Its Without Doubt, who was a full brother to Double Trouble Two.
They are out of Doubtless, daughter of the stud’s foundation stallion Ben Faerie, who became a well-known sire of event horses. Doubtless was a full sister to Ginny Leng’s international event horses Priceless and Nightcap and was also the dam of Schiroubles, the four-star ride of Andrew Nicholson.
