WORK is due to start next week (25 June) on the Injured Jockeys Fund’s (IJF) third rehabilitation and fitness centre.

The £6m Peter O’Sullevan House will be located on the same site as the British Racing School, Newmarket, and work is due to be completed by the end of next year.

IJF chief executive Lisa Hancock described the start of work as a “major milestone”.

“It completes the trio of IJF rehabilitation centres,” she said. “We are absolutely delighted that the project is in Newmarket in the British Racing School grounds as this will mean jockeys can benefit from the resource and support we can offer from the very beginning of their careers until the end.”

The centre will feature state-of-the-art facilities and a Peter O’Sullevan Atrium, with memorabilia from the life of the “voice of racing”.

Ms Hancock thanked the project’s supporters but more are needed. Anyone who donates £100 or more will be allocated a horseshoe in a sculpture made of 800 shoes, in the grounds.
