SIBLING RIVALRY

TWO young Chilli Morning progeny found themselves going headto-head in intermediate section O. Wayne Stephen’s eight-year-old Cheeki Chilli Charli, ridden by Daniel Megson, finished 10th in his first outing this level. Seven-year-old Celtic Morning Star, owned by Michelle Harries and ridden by Andrew James, was 15th.

MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES

BRIER LEAHY confessed that she is never entirely sure which version of intermediate section O winner Kellen (pictured) she is likely to be confronted with on any given day.

“If he was human, he’d definitely be labelled as having a multiple personality disorder along several other diagnoses,” she laughed. “I think I’ve met most of his personalities now, but he’s somewhat quirky to say the least. His strongest and weakest phases vary depending on the day, but he nailed all three today and we plan to go to Barbury for the CIC2* next.”

Although 15, the Irish-bred gelding — who is a full brother to Andrew Hoy’s former three-star partner Balloo IV — only started eventing four years ago after being sent to Brier as a sales livery.

“Despite being extremely spooky, he’s an event horse who has just been waiting to event,” said Brier.
