These victories completed the combination’s winter qualification. The Fulton x Weltmeyer mare was bred by Oakleigh Farm Stud and had a Broadstone Landmark foal before she was backed — OFS Lincoln, who is just starting his eventing career.

“Her dam has been a great mare for us and has a number out competing, including

Don Fidelio,” said breeder

Charlie Zehetmayr.

Chris Pugh and Donna Carlota made their first outing since the regionals a winning one in a medium at Field House. The mare is owned by Gilly Hinnigan, who has temporarily given up the ride while recovering from ankle surgery on an old injury.

“Gilly is one of my closest friends and I’ve taught her on the mare,” said Chris. “She came to watch so it was great to win and the mare felt fantastic.”

Kirstie Reader and her purebred Welsh mare Peelhall April Showers won a prelim at Cockshot Dressage. The 11-year-old was bought, aged five, to do workers and event, but a fall has diverted the duo to dressage.

“I lost my confidence a bit and decided to crack the dressage in preparation for another try at eventing. I’ve really enjoyed it,” explained Kirstie.

“I might have another go at the eventing next year, but I’ll see how we go. I’d planned on a 16hh sport horse and ended up with a 14.1hh Welsh pony, but we’re having a great time.”
