LETTER OF THE WEEK
Sir — I’ve been saddened to read so many negative comments with regards to the Pony Club and their “Keep kicking” slogan on one of the many boards as you entered the championships.
I was an avid member of the Pony Club, as is my daughter now. We have both always been taught that animal welfare is paramount, and great care is taken to instil that into its members today as it was in my day, educating young riders how best to look after their muchtreasured mounts.
“Keep kicking” was not the best of slogans but I feel the sentiment should be taken more as “go for it competitors” rather than literally as some have done. My late father always told me to “kick on in life,” but no one would condone kicking a pony.
Having said this, the championships were well run with many new additions such as live scoring, and all within the grounds of the stunning Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire. R Fifield
