BOTH Maistresse and her rider Paul Burgess clocked their first wins at intermediate. Paul has recently gone solo, having previously worked for Piggy French.

“Up until now I’ve mostly ridden youngsters for a season or two and then they’ve been sold or someone else has taken over, so it’s really lovely to go on with one,” said Paul.

The Jaguar Mail x Master Imp mare is owned by Bill and Linda Bowen, who bought her from Harthill Stud.

“I’ve known them for years, they’re my adopted grandparents and it was great to have them here today cheering us on,” added Paul. “This is easily the toughest track Maistresse has done and she gave me a lovely ride, the best she’s done. We’re heading to Osberton for the seven-year-old championships next.”
