Walker’s on a high
POLICE OFFICER Jack Walker has a penchant for big horses.
His BE90-winning mount at Frenchfield (2), High Valley (Archie), is 17.3hh, while his other eventer also measures over 17hh.
“When I saw Archie as a fiveyear-old I was really impressed by his musculature and bravery,” said Jack, who bought the gelding from Harrington Horses. “I’ve done everything with him myself.”
Jack works shifts for Merseyside Police and fits in riding either before or after work.
“My horses are on full livery, but I plan ahead and fit in riding relatively easily,” he said.
Also at Frenchfield (2), Lorna Riley enjoyed a confidence-giving BE90 win aboard Paul Chester’s home-bred mare, Zimara.
Lorna suffered a nasty fall while competing in the advanced class at Chatsworth earlier this year that left her with broken ribs and nerve damage in her arms.
“I can’t ride anything too strong,” she revealed. “Zimara is lovely. It’s a pity I missed a chunk of the season as I feel like I’ve only just got going with her.”
