Another WEG issue. Some may have felt warnings over possible endurance balls-ups were unfair — then on day one, some riders were misdirected and the competition had to be restarted as a shorter ride. You couldn’t make it up. But could the same theory be applied next time one takes the wrong showjumping course, one wonders?

BILLS

Overheard at the yard, two riders discussing their recent vets’ bills. “My last one almost dented the doormat,” one said gloomily. When even the vets say you’re on a bad run, you know it’s not good.

One will not reveal the identity of she who said, after a cross-country round, that “the frangipane” came out. It’s possible she meant the deformable technology rather than the almondbased confection…
