A horse to watch
Exciting chaser Politologue
POLITOLOGUE has good pedigree, being by Poliglote (by Sadler’s Wells), who also sired Arc winner Solemia and RSA Chase winner Don Poli. Politologue certainly has genes for speed and stamina.
He is an interesting prospect, having won over a variety of distances. Two seasons ago he won three from six starts, but finished that season falling at the last at Aintree in the two-mile Grade One Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase when leading the field. However, he had a cracking season last year, winning four from six starts, including on his first three runs of the year.
He also took the Tingle Creek at Sandown, giving trainer Paul Nicholls his tenth win in the race, and Paul’s first win in an open Grade One Chase since February 2016. It was an impressive race, defeating 8/13 favourite Fox Norton. Despite being beaten in the Game Spirit at Newbury next time out and finishing fourth in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival, he has shown his mettle since.
He was stepped up in trip for the 2m4f Melling Chase at Aintree, where he ran in a tongue tie for the first time. He beat the 11/10 favourite Min by a neck that day and looks an interesting seven-year-old to follow this season.
