Sir — I so agree with Pammy Hutton’s opinion (25 October), questioning whether advanced dressage horses should be downgraded.

I saw an advertisement for a 25-year-old advanced dressage horse from a wellknown rider still at the top — just. I rang her to ask why she was selling an old horse for £1,500 that could end up going anywhere, to any rider. As we know, just because a horse is old does not mean it is easy or safe.

I got a verbal fury of this and that, and before I could actually say anything, the telephone went dead — she had hung up.

Let’s hope that the horse went to a good home, but I doubt it. Miranda Beaufort Little Badminton, Glos
