And finally... Batman to the rescue

Horse & Hound - - News Insider - EJ

RIDERS have been urged to be on the lookout for sleepy bats — and to take appropriate action should they find one.

Mary Bannister, from Hertfordshire, found a snoozing bat on her horse’s rug, which had been folded up over a wall in an open barn. At this time of year, bats should be hibernating, but mild weather may have led them to wake up — or they may have seen a rug, unused since last winter, as the ideal roosting spot.

Being aroused from hibernation expends a great deal of energy and can lead to starvation, the Bat Conservation Trust warns, so anyone who finds one should call the national bat helpline on 0345 1300 228.

The trust also has volunteer groups across the country, members of which can come out to help if needed.

Their numbers are available at — or maybe a bat sign cast into the sky would work?
