Double clear at advanced eventing

Mixing with the pros in the upper echelons

“THIS year, I reached a massive personal milestone when I went double clear in my first advanced. As a complete amateur, juggling eventing with full-time work and studying can be a challenge, so reaching this level on my amazing self-produced 15.2hh mare was very special.

“I bought Libby [She’s A Lady] as a fouryear-old with no recorded breeding. I was 17 at the time and neither of us had competed affiliated in any discipline. Five years — and a lot of hard work — later, she has exceeded all expectations. We’ve gone from competing on Pony Club teams to jumping double clear at advanced and double clear at all three of her two-stars this season, and we’ve showjumped double clear at 1.30m.

“For so long, I believed this level was out of my reach because it was reserved for the professionals, the well-bred horses or schoolmasters, which I would never be able to afford. Although I have a long way to go, and time and money restraints limit muchneeded regular training, it’s nice to show that as an amateur you can be up there competing alongside the very best.”
