“IN August 2014, we bought my pony, Casper [Midnight Dancer II], as a just-backed four-year-old. I was only 12 and Casper was bought for my mum to produce for my younger brother. However, after one hack around the block, I decided he would be mine and from that day on we have never looked back.

“I have always been known as “Nervous Nerys” so when I had Casper at Pony Club camp a week later, everyone thought I’d gone mad! Casper and I just kept gradually improving, having a fabulous time as we went.

“After my first novice in 2016, my dream of pony trialling wasn’t all that far away any more. The 2017 and 2018 seasons were full of pony trials and this year, four years from the day we bought him, Casper was on a transporter to Bishop Burton as part of the British Pony European eventing team and helped bring back gold.

“My childhood dream was achieved and the gold medal was the icing on the cake. To think where we came from, to where we finished off four incredible years later, is unbelievable.

“It’s now my time to step back and watch him teach my brother the ropes.”
