PEGGY GRAYSON
THE well-known judge of mountain and moorland ponies, speaker and author died peacefully on 16 July, aged 100.
Ms Grayson was a prolific countryside journalist and a frequent contributor to H&H, covering major shows and writing a regular column. She was secretary of Burton Horse Show for six years in the 1960s. When she started it was a gymkhana, but when she stepped down it was a major showing and jumping venue. She also started and ran the West Hampshire branch of the Pony Club, whose teams won many top awards.
Ms Grayson was a well-known international judge of dogs and a regular columnist in the Our Dogs and Dog World papers. She judged many major shows including Crufts and travelled to Australia, New Zealand, America and across most of Europe judging and sharing her knowledge.
She was an author of 16 books on various dog breeds, her early life and a murder mystery.
Ms Grayson’s daughter
Storm said her mother will be remembered as someone who gave her vast knowledge freely with humour and honesty.
“No tears should be shed, we should celebrate a life well lived,” she said.
Mrs Grayson’s cremation took place on 29 July. A bigger gathering will be held in the autumn once lockdown restrictions are lifted.
