REGARDING Lorna Johnstone’s letter (10 September) about riders

and owners looking for the quick fix, I bought a four-year-old Welsh section D who has challenged me, but only because he is green and came off a Welsh hillside knowing nothing. But recently I hacked out with a friend and came across a lorry, trailer and motorbikes, and he coped with everything.

We haven’t braved cantering in open spaces or competing yet, but when I look at the diary I keep on his progress, he is doing well. The feeling of starting to trust your horse is the best emotion ever.
