And finally... 38 not out

- EJ

HE’S up for a winter of hunting, and his rider is hoping for one more crack at qualifying for Olympia next year – and he’s 38 years old.

Jan Champney and her daughter Megan have “tried and failed” to retire 11.3hh partShetland gelding Harry XI, who was still winning at the CHAPS championships last year, loads himself into the lorry and gets hugely cross if other horses go to shows without him.

“He’s an absolute legend,” Jan told H&H. “We’re privileged to have him, and I think he thinks we’re lucky to have him too.”

Megan added: “He’s still jumping and doing everything he wants to but the minute he isn’t the first one at the gate, I’ll stop riding him.

“I always say, he owes me nothing but I owe him everything.”
