LEADING lights in the equestrian world have been recognised in The Queen’s 2020 birthday honours list.

Jonathan Roger Weatherby, who was a trustee of Ascot racecourse for 23 years, including 10 as chairman and 10 as Her Majesty’s representative until he stepped down in June, was awarded a knighthood.

Jane Holderness-Roddam, the first woman to ride on a British Olympic eventing team, who won Badminton twice and Burghley and is now a lady-in-waiting to the Princess Royal, was made a commander of the order.

Paul Anthony Lee, chairman of the Horserace Betting Levy Board, was appointed OBE for services to horse racing. Former jump jockey Ron Atkins, who campaigned for jockey safety and set up the Professional Jockeys Association Pension Fund, was appointed OBE for services to horseracing.

This year’s birthday honours have been delayed from June owing to the pandemic.
