NOVICE DEBUTANT SCORES A DOUBLE

WITH just two results on his BD record – a double prelim win, almost a year ago – 14hh Welsh section D gelding Brynmelys Ranaldo notched up two high-scoring novice victories on his debut at the level.

“We were a tad shocked,” said freelance trainer Clare Ashley, who was riding “pocket rocket Ronnie”, a working hunter, for Rachel Philo at Speedgate Events, Kent. “His lockdown training was on grass, because without an arena we had to make do. The biggest thing is trying to keep his attention – he’s a typical Welsh, with a very busy mind.”
