IT’S ABHORRENT
I WAS interested to read the story on Sandra Murphy and the BAME Equine and Rural Activities Focus Group (news, 1 October) and also an online article from another publication in which Ms Murphy explained how her daughter was forced to give up a showjumping career due to racism. While her daughter was at rallies, she heard people calling her the “n” child and other derogatory things.
She told how her daughter was a regional champion and went with a team to a championship. The team was third but during the parade they left her daughter out, in the car park on her own. I have worked in the equine world for many years and have never come across anything as abhorrent.
I felt so sad for this child and her mother. Ms Murphy comes across as a strong, clever woman and I feel the equine world owes her and her daughter an apology.
