“NORMALLY HE HATES GETTING WET”

-

RACHEL REID and “project horse” Joey Cole headed a BE80(T) section at Kirriemuir at their first event.

“My mum bought Joey last year to produce and sell on, but I got on him the day after he came home, instantly fell in love with him and told Mum she wasn’t to sell him,” laughed Rachel.

A rough game in the field with a fourlegged friend resulted in Joey sustaining two nasty kicks that left him sidelined through lockdown, but Rachel has carefully nursed him back to fitness.

“My plan was to do a few unaffiliated events over the summer, but that didn’t happen,” said Rachel. “Not only was Kirriemuir my first-ever event, but it was pouring with rain and Joey hates getting wet – he walks backwards down the field when it blows in his face.”

The pair were the only ones to achieve the optimum time across country, so took the win despite lowering two poles in the showjumping.
