Team challenge champions crowned
CHARLOTTE CRAMPHORN and Rebecula led the Rutland Racy Riders to victory in the first of two BE90open team challenge championships, sponsored by Rowen Barbary.
“It was great fun and reminded me of my Pony Club days,” said Charlotte, who took part in the challenge last year when it was run under a different format, and who was keen to make a return visit to Weston. “I met my other team members [Tom Fray and Good Omen III, Claire Daly and Grant II and Sarah Batty and
Silver Banner Girl] through my coach, Jo Holmes-Cole, and we’d been planning for this competition for a while.”
Charlotte is a recent graduate in sports and exercise science and she is now studying for a teaching qualification at Nottingham University.
“I’ve been at home since
March, which has given me more time to concentrate on riding and training,” she said.
A mutual soft spot for coloured horses brought together The Check Mates, who headed the second BE90open section.
Saskia Brookes, who also won individually with Derreentige Tilly, Katie Stephens-Grandy (Rathcline Kestrel), Chloe Fairley (Behey Boy II) and Nick Ireland (Billy Bank) finished two penalties ahead of their nearest rivals.
In the BE80(T) team challenge, The Mane Attraction took the honours. The team of Victoria Jolly (Titan V), Nikki
Cox (Mr Gangster) and Julie
Jeffes (Hederfeld Ash) found their fourth member, Jessica Nevin (Nicky Byrne), after putting out a request on the Team Challenge Facebook group.
