PUTTING ON A SHOW
YOUR “Legends of the sport” featuring Pretty Polly (1 April) reminded me of the early 1950s and the Suolk County Show.
I was showing my pony in the 14.2hh class when Davina LeeSmith came in with Pretty Polly and won. At that time, my pony and I were very green compared to the professional Davina.
If I remember correctly, Davina also won the 13.2hh class on My Pretty Maid and the 12hh on Glide On. I wonder if any of your readers can conrm this.
In the early ’60s at the Essex County Show, I showed the same pony as a broodmare, with Albert Deptford judging. And to my delight, both pony and foal were placed high.
Happy memories, especially when my father paid £25 for my pony, which was once in the ring with one that cost £1,000.
