Shows restart in Scotland and Wales

-

ORGANISED competition and training may now widely resume in Scotland and Wales.

A number of restrictions, including rules on travel and outdoor sport, were eased on 26 April, allowing British Dressage (BD) competition to resume in Wales and Scotland last week.

British Showjumping senior shows have restarted in Scotland, where junior shows have been allowed for some weeks, and junior competitions are on the cards in Wales.

BD CEO Jason Brautigam said it “really feels” like a normal calendar of events for all BD members is on its way.

But British Eventing’s Howick (18–19 May) and Chepstow at Howick (3-4 July) fixtures have both been cancelled owing to Covid restrictions and ongoing uncertainty respectively.

“As Howick is in Wales, the event is subject to different Covid regulations to English events,” said the organisers. “We have received confirmation from the authorities that our May event will not be able to run.

“It is clear the Welsh government is being more cautious and planning test events before allowing large events and due to this uncertainty we have taken the decision also to cancel Chepstow at Howick.”
