LETTER OF THE WEEK

-

HAVING been a supporter of the plaited pony in the show ring for a very long time, I was heartened to read

Philip Hilton’s comments (opinion, 22 April).

He suggested that the British Show Pony Society may be looking at changing the classication for show pony and hunter ponies in order to support breeders and encourage more entries.

There is a very strong case for having the class classication childage related with any height ponies 148cm or under. This would be such a help to breeders of oddheight animals and parents of tall children who have to compete out of their age bracket.

With adults dominating the mountain and moorland classes, it is of great urgency to nd a way to support these children’s riding ponies and their young jockeys, otherwise they could be lost forever. Gail Chapman Llandinam, Powys
