“HE’S everything I’ve ever been looking for,” enthused amateur rider Kayleigh Catton of her traditional coloured stallion Horsmans Flanlord (Barry) who captured the RIHS coloured tricolour on his first outing of the year.

Kayleigh bought the 12-yearold of unknown breeding from her good friends Will Darlington and Stella Duffy who had sent him to her to be schooled and shown.

“Will and Stella bought him from his breeder, Steve Roper of the Horsmans Shire Stud,” explained Kayleigh of Barry, who stands at 15.1hh and has only been broken for some 18 months.

“He was started late as he’s spent the majority of his life covering mares. When he arrived with me I fell in love and offered to buy him. He’s the most uncomplicated horse I’ve ever owned and he’s effortless to ride.

He even got my mum back into riding after 40 years out of the saddle.”

With an RIHS ticket in the bag, Kayleigh will now vie for a HOYS place.

“I believe he found me and our partnership is meant to be,” she added. “He’s just the best.”

Danni Radford claimed the section reserve on Newoak Tobago Bay.

Harrison Taylor and team started their season as they mean to go on, landing four classes and three section championships, including the RIHS mountain and moorland (M&M) young rider’s honour. This was with Kerry Wainwright’s 2021 HOYSwinning Connemara stallion Skellorn Deja Vu, who was champion over Gracie Brooks and her new ride, five-year-old Welsh section B gelding

Weydown Montagu.

Jessica Carney secured her RIHS amateur M&M ticket with her consistent New Forest stallion Woodfidley Saint George.
