The flickering and enveloping scent of a luxurious candle is so enticing, but not all its ingredients are good for you or the environment. Those made from paraffin wax with a synthetic fragrance may contain harmful carcinogens that can be as bad for your health as secondhand smoke. Despite being non-toxic when burning, candles made with palm oil are worth avoiding as growing the plants for this causes serious deforestation. Safer options include Beeswax

It’s non-toxic when burned and releases negative ions that bind with toxins already in the air to clean it. Soy-based candles offer the greenest alternative.
