BEST FOR BEES
Expect to see woodland plants, including hostas and ferns, and wildlife-friendly plants, such as echinaceas (right) and salvias. Drought-tolerant salvias are the gardener’s friend, with a long flowering season from May until the first frosts in sheltered spots. Salvia x jamensis ‘Violette de Loire’ and Salvia Nachtvlinder (left) are the varieties to look for. Part of the sage family, their evergreen leaves are slightly scented and their nectar-rich flowers attract pollinators. They thrive in containers and borders.
