LIGHT’S FANTASTIC
How you light your home office is as important as its location. For optimum efficiency, go for the triumvirate of ambient, task and accent lighting to suit all working modes.
AMBIENT Try to place your desk near a window to make the most of natural ambient light, which is proven to boost health and productivity as well as making any space feel larger and airier. Worried about screen glare? Consider translucent shades or blinds that diffuse the light without making the room darker. TASK A good desk lamp for task lighting will allow you to focus properly. An adjustable design is best as you can angle it to suit, and if you have multiple workstations – a desk and a reading area, for example – then you’ll need task lighting for each. ACCENT Your office is still part of your home and may need to double as a chill-out area or guest bedroom at times, so treat it as you would any other room, with table and standard lamps as well as wall lights for a homely atmosphere.
