MY HOME

Somebody once described home as your personal film set in which you live out your life. It’s an expression of your personality, where you feel most comfortable. I live in a Victorian house but the era is just a backdrop.

MY STYLE

Our house is filled with collections I’ve found from my travels and life, rather than buying everything from one shop. Our house is currently being renovated – we used the home management company Hoppy to help us find reliable tradespeople as we had a disaster with someone before.

HEART-FELT PRESENTS

For our wedding gifts we asked people to buy us their favourite book, whether it was a story they’d loved as a child, a novel they love now or a coffee table book on photography, and write a line on the first page about why they chose it. Our shelves and table in our living room are now filled with those gifts – it feels so personal.

MY HERITAGE

My mum used to make my sister and me matching outfits – we were a budget version of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the American fashion twins! She loves clothes, and we were quite crafty children. I grew up in Huddersfield, which had a big fabric market – Mum used to buy paper patterns and we’d go with her to help choose the material. It wasn’t until I was older that I got into home fabrics and began to know what I liked.

EAST END LIVING

Favourite places to eat near my home are Rochelle Canteen in Shoreditch, which blends modern and classic food beautifully, and also Little Duck – The Picklery, a fermenting kitchen and wine bar. For breakfast I like to go to Morito, a great tapas and meze place at Exmouth Market, and then maybe later take a walk along the Columbia Road flower market.

ART AT HOME

I like individual style and the idea of introducing art to my home gradually. It doesn’t have to be expensive – The Affordable Art Fair is a great place to find interesting pieces at reasonable prices, and graduate shows and exhibitions are good for inspired individual art.

LATIN LOVES

I fell in love with Mexico when I went there on holiday – the music, the food, the atmosphere. It’s so energised and full of colour. My perfect meal would be a Mexican feast served with a chilli Margarita.

FAVOURITE MUSIC

Film soundtracks are great.

Call Me By Your Name is one of my favourites, but I also enjoy what’s in the charts as well as music from the 1960s and 70s. My husband loves soul and Northern Soul and is a real record collector. He plays them at the weekend and while he’s listening, he brings me a cup of tea in bed. I like the sound a record makes and the way, when it gets to the end of the music, it just crackles! It feels more authentic.

MY FRIENDS

Relationships are everything.

I would be lost without my group of friends. I’m a really sociable person. I’m able to entertain myself but I feed off other people’s energy – I really don’t like sitting in a room on my own. HB
