EXPERT GUIDE CHOOSE THE BEST FLOORING

-

‘In addition to the style and design of your flooring, you’ll also need to consider safety, durability and ease of cleaning,’ explains David Snazel, a buyer at Carpetright. ‘Look for something slip-resistant that will stand the test of time.’ David’s top tips include:

1 Luxury vinyl tiles are an elegant choice for kitchens – they emulate more expensive materials, while being incredibly practical, in that they're water-resistant, low-maintenance and compatible with underfloor heating. Vinyl flooring is an even more affordable option with similar benefits and comes in an enormous range of patterns and designs, so there really is something for everyone. 2 Laminate flooring can replicate the look of natural materials, with realistic grain and stone textures at a fraction of the price of the real thing. However, not all laminates are suitable for use in a kitchen as some can warp easily – look out for waterproof ranges. 3 Engineered wood works well and looks fantastic, although it will need more maintenance. It can withstand changes in temperature, humidity and moisture without compromising on durability. 4 Create a feeling of space. Lighter-toned floors will make a small room feel bigger – chevron designs can be particularly effective at opening up narrow kitchens. Whether your space is open plan or broken plan, carry the same flooring from the kitchen to adjoining areas for a consistent flow and a more harmonious feel.
