Interior designer Andrew Griffiths and House Beautiful’s Style & Interiors Director Sarah Keady share their tips on the latest trends. This month, the neutral tone that’s here to stay

COOL GREY

‘It’s wise to think about longevity with interiors – while it’s great fun to update and evolve your home’s look over time, you need a good foundation to start with,’ says Andrew. ‘Cool greys are hugely versatile to work with and pair really well with warmer tones. That could be in paint shades, but also think about materials: using wood in flooring or furniture, with accents of warm-hued metals like brass, keeps the colour tones balanced and makes for a very chic look that will stand the test of time.’

‘Grey has long been a popular shade within interiors, proving the classic staple colour for sofas, but it has moved on from cooler monochrome pairings and started to be used with warmer hues instead, creating a more welcoming, liveable palette,’ says Sarah. ‘This neutral now acts as a versatile backdrop to a whole range of colours and textures – especially the toasty tones we’re seeing so much of at the moment, such as cinnamon, amber and rust. But it also looks fantastic against fresh shades of blush and blue, via the addition of cushions and vases.’
