● If you’re on a tight budget, open shelving is a lot cheaper than cabinets

● When upcycling old units, ensure they’re properly sanded down and treated with a primer before painting, and seal with wax or clear matt varnish

● When renovating a small space, think about doors and, if necessary, turn the hinges so they open outwards

● If you’re going to try an unusual tile pattern, use a professional – it’s much harder than a simple vertical design!
