WAX ATELIER
SHARED CURIOSITY
Having previously worked together on creative projects, in 2017 Lola Lely (above left), and Yesenia Thibault-picazo discovered they had a mutual fascination with wax. Inspired by its versatility and creative potential, they set up Wax
Atelier and began to explore traditional techniques to produce hand-dipped candles. Further experimentations with waxed textiles led to a range of natural food wraps.
NATURAL SELECTION
Sustainability is key and the pair strive to source raw materials as locally as possible. Their collaboration with interiors brand Toast features products in a blend of beeswax and plant-based waxes, such as green tea wax and rose wax, in an ethereal colour palette created with natural plant dyes.
BUILDING A COMMUNITY
At the heart of Wax Atelier is a desire to learn, share and engage. Last year they partnered with the Participatory City Foundation to recruit and train people from their local community of Barking and Dagenham in east London to build a team of makers. And there’s a book on the horizon showcasing the craft of wax and how to produce your own creations. We can’t wait to learn more! waxatelier.com
