Expert guide
‘Bathrooms are little home sanctuaries – somewhere to relax and perform daily rituals of self-care,’ says Marianne Shillingford, creative director at Dulux. ‘Rather than pleasing the crowd, go for colours that appeal to you and make you truly happy.’ Here are her tips:
1
Choose paint finishes that are specifically designed to stand up to the warm, steamy atmosphere of a bathroom. It’s a good idea to opt for mould-resistant formulas that are easy to clean without the finish or colour getting damaged.
2
Remember that no matter how good the quality of the paint you’re using, it isn’t designed to get regularly covered in hot soapy water. Occasional splashes shouldn’t be a problem, of course, as long as you wipe them away quickly.
3
For a calming atmosphere, use colours that reconnect you to a favourite place. If you love being under a clear sunny sky, try serene pale blues. Choose natural greens if you prefer a tranquil forest, and if it’s relaxing under a canopy of stars that floats your boat, you’ll love inkier hues.
4
Real luxury is an immersive, wrap-around experience, so if you want colour in the bathroom to offer the same feeling, paint the whole room with the same shade on the ceiling as on the walls.
