TO CREATE A FUNCTIONAL, BEAUTIFUL PATH, FOLLOW NIC’S TIPS…
Check whether your existing path follows the most convenient route
Analyse the areas, features and doorways that need linking
Remember, paths don’t necessarily need to be straight, and can curve around trees or borders
Take photos from every angle – things can often be seen more clearly this way
Make a moodboard of ideas from other gardens seen in books or magazines
Collect samples of hard landscaping materials, checking wet and dry, in sun or shade, to ensure they match existing materials
Work to a width of at least 80cm to take a wheelbarrow, and provide easy access to compost heap, dustbin, shed and washing lines
Mark out a new path with bamboo canes to ensure it works practically
