Key ingredients for your living room
• If your living room is also your office, look at how you can zone it to have a different feel when you’re at work to when you’re trying to relax and switch off.
• Allocate a decent amount of your budget for good flooring – while you can often make lower-cost furniture or accessories look great, if you have a cheap-looking floor, it can really bring everything down.
• Do you like colour but lack confidence about how to use it? If so, use it in ways that are easy to change, such as for artwork, soft furnishings and shelf styling.
• Light the room for how you’re going to use it – if you love reading, create a well-lit comfy corner. If movie night is your thing, make sure you have subtle and dimmable ambient lighting.
