Why do we turn in our sleep?

While some believe unconsciou­sly shifting our sleeping position is simply a matter of getting more comfortabl­e, others think it is a protective mechanism to ensure we aren’t lying on one part of our body for too long, which can reduce blood flow and build up pressure. Tossing and turning in the night can also be an involuntar­y response to stress induced by bad dreams.
