How It Works

What’s in interstellar space?

- Nevaeh Reed

Practically nothing. Known as the interstellar medium, the space between stars is not completely empty. It’s mostly made up of hydrogen gas, but also contains traces of other gases and dust. The molecules of gas and dust in interstellar space are widely spread out, but some areas are more concentrated than others.
