In Hubble’s system, these are designated E0 to E7 depending on how flattened they appear in photograph­s. E0 looks almost spherical, while E7 is a much more elongated shape. This doesn’t necessaril­y reflect the galaxy’s real shape, though. A cigar-shaped galaxy seen end on, for example, would be classified as E0.
