Spring has long been associated with new beginnings in temperate climates. This season gives young birds and mammals the best chance of survival, since extreme weather is less likely. Days are longer, giving parents of foraging species more time to find food, and there’s an abundance of vegetation and insects.

Lambs and chicks have become icons of spring
