Why is Earth’s axis on a tilt?

When the Earth was formed, its spin axis would have been almost perpendicular to the plane of its orbit. The tilt you’re talking about resulted from collisions with other objects early in Earth’s history and may once have been even greater than the 23.5 degrees we see today.
