What machines are used to identify DNA in a forensic laboratory?
Joe Jacobs
A thermostatic cycler can separate and amplify the sample, creating copies. This is useful if the sample is small or has deteriorated. A DNA analyser is used to match samples by comparing nucleotide sequences. This can be used to show the likelihood that a suspect was present at a crime scene or if they were in contact with evidence. A polymerase chain reaction machine allows multiple experiments to be carried out on a single sample simultaneously.
