REALLY COOL INVENTION

-

Dear HIW,

Who invented air conditioning? Ken Woytisek

Willis Carrier was an engineer who became known as ‘the father of air conditioning’. When working at the Buffalo Forge Company as chief engineer between 1902 and 1915, Carrier was asked to help improve conditions in a humid printing plant. Carrier designed a system that would cool and cleanse the air by circulating it, sending air through coils filled with cold water. The first portable AC unit was invented by a man named Frederick

Jones. These gained importance through use in military hospitals, keeping soldiers cool after being wounded on the battlefield.
