NATURAL WARNING SIGNS
THE SEA SWELLS
As a hurricane approaches, the sea starts to get rougher. This can happen days before landfall. Waves rise, lifting to heights of two metres or more.
THE CLOUDS CHANGE SHAPE
Hot air rising from the sea carries water into the sky, forming distinctive clouds. Cirrocumulus clouds look like ripples.
ANIMALS HIDE
Many animals sense changes in air pressure before a storm. In the sea, sharks, dolphins and lobsters move to deeper water.
