WILL THE INTERNET EVER GET FULL?
There’s an ongoing debate about this, and experts are divided in opinion. Every person who starts up a website must obtain an IP address, which allocates them their ‘space’ on the internet. When the internet first began, the number of available IP addresses seemed inexhaustible at approximately 4.3 billion, but that was long before there was a computer in most households. As time goes by, more and more IP addresses are being used up, and we could still run out. This doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be any more space available, but a new system will have to be put in place to allow for more addresses. The latest system is called Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) and can potentially house approximately 3x1034 addresses – a three followed by 34 zeros.
