WITH HIGH STAKES

-

“We fronted up in the middle and knew that if we got on top in that battle, we’d get on top in the game, which is what we ended up doing.

“That’s what got us the win against Warrington, and we know that’s what will get us the win at Widnes this weekend.

“It’s up to us to make sure that’s what happens.”

Lawrence also believes securing a first Super League double over Warrington will also stand the Giants in good stead for the last five games of the regular season.

After being involved in so many heartbreaking defeats against the Wolves, the England Knights ace feels being able to back up the 29-10 Halliwell Jones Stadium success in March with the 30-19 home triumph the last time out has given the entire Huddersfield squad a huge boost in confidence.

“Over the past few years, we’ve really suffered at the hands of Warrington,” added the Giants’ top tackler.

“Unfortunately, I’ve been on the receiving end of quite a few of those, including big Challenge Cup games and play-off ties.

“So to get the double over them this time around feels brilliant.

“To be honest, it’s just the sort of extra boost in confidence we need at what’s such a vital stage of the season.”

Lawrence is named in the Giants squad for Sunday’s trip to the Vikings, along with fit-again duo Leroy Cudjoe and Brett Ferres who Giants: McGillvary, Cudjoe, Wardle, Brough, Robinson, Crabtree, Huby, Ferres, Hughes, Lawrence, Kopczak, Ta’ai, Broughton, Mullally, Ellis, Fairbank, Connor, Leeming, Simpson. Vikings: Ah Van, Brown, Chapelhow, Clarkson, Craven, Dean, Dudson, Galea, Gerrard, Hanbury, Heremaia, Isa, Leuluai, Manuokafoa, Marsh, Mellor, Owens, White, Whitley. Referee: Richard Silverwood. HALIFAX head coach Richard Marshall knows his players will need to be at their best to win at Dewsbury Rams tomorrow and maintain their top four Kingstone Press Championship spot.

The men from The Shay won 14-8 at Hunslet last Friday, with Marshall hoping to build on the performance.

“Dewsbury are a very good team, they’ve got a very good squad, a big squad and they’re well coached. It’s another away game for us, we’ve had three on the bounce now, and we feel confident we can come away with a win,” said Marshall, who looks set to include on-loan Giants youngster Tyler Dickinson (above) on the bench once again.
