Cap fits for Southwell gains

-

CAPOLAVORO hit the mark on his most recent outing and can make it a quickfire double in the sunbets.co.uk Handicap at Southwell.

Robert Cowell’s charge was a winner at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening and connections are clearly eager to strike again while the iron is hot as he turns out just three days later.

He turned in an eye-catching performance in winning at Dunstall Park, travelling well throughout before easing through and quickening smartly to register a comfortable two-and-aquarter-length verdict.

Capolavoro won off a perch of 69 there and will line up with a 6lb penalty here, with Cowell gambling that the handicapper will raise him a bit more than that in the fullness of time.

Syndicate can make it fourth-time lucky in the 32Red.com British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

Second on her first two racecourse starts, Syndicate was well fancied to hit the mark as she dropped back to maiden company after tackling a conditions heat on her penultimate run.

However, she disappointed in finishing only fourth on her first try at a mile, so a drop back to seven furlongs makes sense and can see her finally get off the mark.

Roger Varian has his string in good shape and it looks very difficult to get away from High Command in the Download The Betway App Handicap.

The High Chaparral gelding won over a mile and a half at this track last month, getting every yard and being well in command at the finish.

It would be most surprising if this first go at a mile and three-quarters did not bring about further improvement.

Still Waiting should be followed in the 32Red Casino Nursery Handicap.

The William Jarvis-trained youngster ran by far his best race to date when last seen at Kempton, where he was stepping up in trip and out of maidens, as well as trying the allweather for the first time.

He ultimately had to give best to Mark Johnston’s Dominating, but there was no disgrace in that and if he can build on it he should be thereabouts once more.

Caracci Apache’s initial outing over fences last term proved something of a false start but he can make a fresh start in the division in the Signs 2000 Novices’ Chase at Uttoxeter.
