NATIONWIDE Building Society in Huddersfie­ld has raised £762 for the Huddersfie­ld and Kirklees MS Society.

The cash came from building society members donating money for YOUNG and old had a great time learning all about birds at an intergener­ational event in Birkby.

Children from Birkby Junior School met up with people who attend the Aspire Community Group at St John’s Church in Birkby where they meet every Thursday from 10am to noon.

The session called Nature’s Footprints was led by Joanna Liversidge and the young and old made bird feeders, played games and did bird-themed word searches.

The Aspire group also meets every Tuesday from 10.30am to noon at the Chestnut Centre at Woodhouse, Fartown.

Aspire is for people aged over 60 and their events range from talks through to pottery.

The event included conker games, crafts and African drumming.

It also saw the launch of the Birkby Community Cook Book.

This was compiled with recipes from people living in Birkby and features dishes from around the world ranging from Yorkshire parkin to curry.

It was given away to people who attended and they also had the chance to taste some of the dishes in the park.
